Street arts

Two extraordinary spectacles will fill Trafalgar Square’s magnificent central stairs and lower terrace.

3.30pm, Heart ‘n Soul’s “Look!” features a cast of 60 budding performers spotted on the dance floors of The Beautiful Octopus Club and The Squidz Club. This site-specific piece, choreographed by Fiona Findlay with Heart 'n Soul Dance, is in three parts, with each section having a distinct musical accompaniment provided by three acts: The Fish Police; Smith & Long; and Mark Williams & Stefan Nowak. Working with conceptual artists Catherine Long and Danny Nasipour Smith and costume designer Cornelius, “Look!” promises to be a trailblazing and inspirational occasion.

5.30pm, The Alexandras present an uplifting extravaganza ablaze with feathers, sequins, swans and stilettos directed by Jenny Sealey. Integrating sign song and choreography, “Priscilla Queen of the Deaf World” features performances from Caroline Parker, Daryl Jackson and Mark Smith, joined by Miro Civin, Milton Lopez and Matt Stevens. With an exciting new look for 2007 from Renaissance Creative Design, the Alexandras triumphantly return to Liberty with a bigger, bolder and extravagantly over the top finale!

Garden Party guests can enjoy the sights and smells, take part in workshops to make a flower, a wishing stone, a large leaf, puppets and masks or just sit on the grass for some alfresco performances from Jason Maverick.

Comedy and Cabaret

Unique stand up from Paul Betney, just back from Edinburgh with his hilarious show “Unshakeable”, joined by Liz Bentley, who recently wowed audiences with her solo show “I’ve only got myself to blame”. Liz Carr promises, in the words of The Guardian, “to bring the house down with a cocktail of caustic observational gags”, all held in check by the inimitable performer, producer and writer Deborah Williams, in a 30 minute charm offensive with themes voted by the audience!

Screening times will be displayed on signs at the Liberty Information and Access areas and the Visual arts and Film zone on the day.
