State of the Environment reportThis is the Mayor's second State of the Environment Report for London providing an update on progress on the many aspects of London's environment since the first report in 2003. The core message is that there has been a significant improvement in the various indicators, notably transport, renewable energy, recycling and air quality. However, more work remains to be done on key issues such as the reduction of waste going to landfill, increasing recycling, reducing our water consumption and leakage, continued improvement of air quality, street cleanliness and prevention of litter if London is to achieve its goal of becoming a first class, sustainable world city. The Executive Summary and full report (by each individual chapter) is available to download. Please note that RTF versions will not contain any images. It provides a snapshot of Londons environmental quality, and covers everything from air pollution to allotments, and energy conservation to ecological footprints. Much of the report was compiled from new research but it has also, for the first time, drawn together existing data for the whole of London. The Mayors environmental strategies contain a host of initiatives to improve Londons environment. The Green Capital report will be used as a baseline for future monitoring, and the basis for assessing our success in future years. |
