London Waterways Commission

London's waterways consist of the rivers, canals and other bodies of water within the Greater London area. The Mayor's London Plan, which refers to them as the Blue Ribbon Network, includes policies relating to their management, recognising the many aspects of their importance for the capital: for example leisure, tourism, transport and biodiversity. Responsibility for managing the Blue Ribbon Network rests with a number of public agencies notably the Environment Agency, the Port of London Authority, British Waterways and the water companies.

The Mayor has set up the London Waterways Commission to keep him informed about issues relating to London's waterways. Meetings of the Commission, which is chaired by Murad Qureshi AM, are open to the public, and meetings papers are available for download.
