About the partnership

'The London Energy Partnership and its work will go beyond any action we have seen before in this area. We must work with communities and businesses across London to build a strong sustainable energy sector that delivers social, economic and environmental benefits for London.'

Ken Livingstone
Mayor of London
26 January 2004

Working Together

Working as an independent body, the London Energy Partnership uses the power of partnership to enable London to respond to the challenges of climate change, security of energy supply and fuel poverty. Until the formation of the Partnership, London lacked an adequate mechanism to enable broad collaboration that is required to tackle these issues. The Partnership brings together a range of sectors and organisations to deliver energy action more effectively.

Aims of the London Energy Partnership

  • Assist in the delivery of London's carbon dioxide reduction, fuel poverty and security of supply targets for 2010, 2016 and 2050.
  • Provide a single voice for sustainable energy in London and achieve a sea change in thinking about sustainable energy by key stakeholders.
  • Enable a number of high-profile, London-wide initiatives that deliver social, environmental and economic benefits.
  • Create commercial opportunities in sustainable energy and help to build London's green economy.

Five-Year Vision for the London Energy Partnership

By 2009 the London Energy Partnership has national and international recognition for its good work and has proven its role as the key mechanism for delivering London's energy targets.

The Partnership has long-term core funding in place. Significant new money from regional, national and European sources has been brought in to deliver major projects and programmes that meet the objectives of the London Energy Partnership Action Plan. Existing work in London has been supported, enabling more effective delivery, and the London Energy Forum is a large, successful discussion and consultation platform.

London Energy Partnership Structure and Primary Functions

The London Energy Partnership Steering Group will determine and maintain the strategic direction of the Partnership's activities.

Task Groups will take forward the development of relevant sections of the London Energy Action Plan, and initiate and oversee projects it identifies.

The London Energy Forum functions as a networking and discussion forum, serves as the stakeholders' group for sustainable energy matters in London and constitutes the pool of London Energy Partnership Task Groups members. To have your name added to the Forum contact list, please forward your information to info@lep.org.uk.

The Mayor and the London Development Authority provides an interim Secretariat for the Partnership during its development phase.
