London Schools Environment AwardLondon Schools Environment Awards

The London Schools Environment Awards, open to all London's primary schools, were set up in 2003 to develop children’s sense of responsibility for their environment.

The awards are an opportunity for the younger generation to learn about their world and the implications that we as humans have on the planet. All steps within the LSEA are working towards economic, social and environmental sustainability.

Since inception the LSEA has had 3200 schools register for the awards. The 2007/8 year saw over 200,000 children participating in the awards via their schools, with over 580 schools registering.

Each year prizes are awarded to two schools in each of the 33 London boroughs - 66 prizes in total!:

  • A Distinction Award and £2,000
  • A Highly Commended Award and £1,000

Every school that registers is sent a free Environmental Toolbox packed with information and practical environmental items to use inside and outside the classroom.

2007/08 LSEA registration

The 2008/9 awards are yet to be finalised however you can register your interest in the awards by using the online registration form. Once the awards have been finalised you will be contacted with key dates, information on the LSEA themes and advice on how to get your projects underway.

LSEA Booklet

The 2008/09 LSEA information booklet is not available yet however it will be sent to schools upon completion. Last years booklet is available to read or download below. The booklet contains all the guidelines for participation, criteria for action plans, examples of past winners' work, curriculum links and contact details of your borough’s LSEA link officer.

Examples of LSEA work

Ravenstone Preparatory and Nursery School (Kensington) designed a Gum Action Day as part of their LSEA work; Northside Primary (Barnet) mapped wildlife and plants in the school, studied life cycles and made their own recycled shopping bags. LSEA thanks all of the schools who have shared their work with us. View examples of LSEA work.
