Pounds, Transport and Pence seminar

Pounds, Transport and Pence seminar

Exploring the relationship between transport and London’s economy

Wednesday 15 February 2006

Seminar summary

Transport is essential for an economy and is essential for London. But despite its key role, quantifying the importance of a particular transport investment is difficult. This creates problems when informing policy and modelling the relationship between transport and the economy.

The Pounds, Transport and Pence seminar presented several practical applications in which the links between transport investment and activity were explored. These applications can assist policy design in London and help evaluate transport investments.

Speakers

The seminar featured four speakers. Their presentations can be downloaded below:

Bridget Rosewell, Consultant Chief Economist, GLA Economics
Bridget provided an overview of the area and referred to the concept of agglomeration and the shortcomings of traditional transport appraisal methods.
