Overcoming barriers to institutional investment in residential property29 February 2008 Seminar summaryThis event will focus on overcoming barriers to institutional investment in residential property. Institutional investment has the potential to support large new developments and to deliver high quality, well-managed stock. Opportunities for increased investment exist through build-to-let schemes and through registered social landlords. The research, undertaken by Savills, has its inception in statements made in the Mayor’s Draft Housing Strategy that London needs to ‘encourage new forms of private investment and development to provide more homes for sale or private rent’. There has, however, been little research on the barriers preventing large scale institutional funds from entering the sector to date: a problem the research seeks to address.
