London's Central Business District: Its Global Importance

City sky view

Seminar, Wednesday 23 January 2008

Central Business Districts (CBD) are important to a city’s economic vitality. London’s CBD, covering the City, a large part of Westminster, parts of several other central boroughs and the Canary Wharf enclave to the east is home to many of the capital’s core functions. It’s a business district of global importance employing one-and-a-half million people involved in activities ranging from international finance and business services, to retail and leisure activities.

Amid continuing globalisation, demand for these activities will grow and much of it will require a central location. This seminar aimed to identify the unique characteristics of London's Central Business District, its key economic drivers and the critical factors for continuing its success.
