Open Rehearsal

Open Rehearsal will not be running in 2009.

Open RehearsalOpen Rehearsal aims to open doors, engage audiences, encourage participation and learning and promote London's phenomenal cultural offer. It provides a superb opportunity for Londoners and visitors to London to get behind the scenes in London's world class creative and cultural organisations and encourages Londoners of all ages and backgrounds to engage in new and exciting ways with the performing arts sector in London.

In 2008 Open Rehearsal took place across London from 26th to 28th September, forming part of the London launch of the Cultural Olympiad. 2008 was the fourth year of Open Rehearsal, and it included for the first time events from visual arts, heritage and creative industries such as fashion and film.

Over one hundred arts organisations have participated in Open Rehearsal. Previous projects for the scheme have included:

  • ballet classes with English National Ballet
  • backstage tours at West End theatres
  • DJ workshops at Cargo
  • open rehearsals with all of London's major orchestras
  • creative writing workshops at the Royal Court.

Open Rehearsal showcases London's amazing cultural activity and works with cultural organisations across London on both achieving new audiences and deepening the experience for current audiences.
