Open Rehearsal

About Open Rehearsal

Open RehearsalOpen Rehearsal, now in its 4th year, is a Mayor of London initiative taking place across London from 26th to 28th September 2008. This coincides with the launch of the Cultural Olympiad and Open Rehearsal will form a core London activity for this.

Open Rehearsal aims to open doors, engage audiences, encourage participation and learning and promote London's phenomenal cultural offer - making it a perfect partner to realise the aspirations of London 2012's cultural programme.

Open Rehearsal provides a superb opportunity for Londoners and visitors to London to get behind the scenes in London's world class creative and cultural organisations. It encourages Londoners of all ages and backgrounds to engage in new and exciting ways with the performing arts sector in London. For 2008 Open Rehearsal will also include, for the first time, visual arts, museums and open studios events.

Over the past four years over one hundred arts organisations have participated in the Open Rehearsal initiative. Previous projects for the scheme have included ballet classes with English National Ballet, backstage tours, DJ workshops at Cargo, open rehearsal with all of London's major Orchestras and creative writing with the Royal Court. The campaign will showcase London's amazing cultural activity, work with cultural organisations across London on developing new audiences by offering a huge variety of participative and non participative projects and support partners by profile raising and networking.

The website www.openrehearsal.co.uk will go live from Friday 22nd August to celebrate the Olympic handover from Beijing to London taking place that weekend.
