Creative Industries

London has always been a creative city, based on innovation and ideas. The creative industries - from architecture and advertising to the performing arts and publishing - add £21 billion annually to London's output, more than all the production industries combined and second only to Business Services at £32 Billion.

As a whole, creative industries represent London's third largest sector of employment, with 525,000 people working either directly in the creative industries or in creative occupations in other industries. The sector also offers London's second biggest source of job growth, contributing roughly one in every five new jobs.

Asian Dream

London is well positioned to provide the essential requirements of the creative process - interaction, inspiration and face-to-face stimulation. Furthermore, London offers a diverse, multi-lingual workforce that allows cultural and creative communication on a global scale. At the centre of a productivity revolution, London’s creative industries are expanding both jobs and wealth, with employment up by 5 per cent, output by 8.5 per cent and productivity by 4 per cent between 1995 and 2000.

The Mayor is determined to ensure that London remains an economically and culturally vibrant city in which creative talent can thrive and prosper and compete internationally. In April 2004, the Mayor launched Creative London, led by the London Development Agency. Creative London aims to boost the capital’s reputation and performance as a leading world centre of creativity.
