Consultation on the Western Extension: September 2008

On 1 September 2008 a five-week public consultation on the future of the Western Extension of the Congestion Charging zone began. Transport for London (TfL) is asking those taking part in the consultation if they want the Western Extension kept as it is, removed, or whether they want certain aspects of it changed to address specific concerns.

Congestion Charging Western Extension: February 2007

On 19 February 2007 the Central London Congestion Charge Zone was extended westwards to cover most of the boroughs of Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster. The extended zone now operates as one scheme, with the same rules, payment channels and discounts.  In addition to the extended area, the operated hours of the Congestion Charging scheme were changed to 7am to 6pm from the previous 7am to 6.30pm.

Changes to charges: March 2005

On 31 March 2005 the Mayor confirmed, after consultation, on Variation Orders No. 4 and No. 5 for the Central London Congestion Charging scheme. This includes details of the fleet notification scheme, raising the level of the Congestion Charge, discount for fleet schemes and monthly and annual discounts.

Transport Strategy Revision: August 2004

The Mayor published a Revision to his Transport Strategy on 11 August 2004. The Transport Strategy Revision sets out the policy framework within which proposals for a western extension to the Congestion Charge zone were taken forward. A map of the extended charging area is included in the Transport Strategy Revision.
