Black History Season 2007

Black History Season 2007

Celebrating 20 years of Black History Month

Welcome to the Mayor’s Black History Season 2007. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the celebration of October as Black History Month, which has been celebrated across London since October 1987 as part of African Jubilee year. The decision to make this an annual event each October was endorsed by the Association of London Authorities. It has grown to celebrate the contributions and cultural heritage of London’s African and Caribbean communities to and their contribution to the capitals economic and cultural history.

This year's programme was a kaleidoscope of visual arts, exhibition’s and educational stimuli including historical walking and river tours and the Black History Scholar competition. This included a wide variety of events ranging from art and culture and entertainment from the innovative K2C to thought provoking plays. The events brought people across London together in their search for information and inspiration this Black History Season.
