Design for London publicationsEast London Green Grid Primer, November 2006 The Green Grid concept aims to provide new and existing East London residents and workers with a multi-functional network of strategic open space and in turn improved quality of life. The Primer is a promotional document to communicate the Green Grid concept. It gives an accessible introduction and contains contributions from leading environmentalists. It also describes each of the six areas that make up the Green Grid and displays pictures of East London green and open spaces as they are now. East London Green Grid Primer PDF (1.4MB) Read more about the East London Green Grid The Mayor's 100 Public Spaces Programme Phase 3, September 2005 The launch of a further 10 projects as the third phase of the 100 Public Spaces programme brings the total number of projects to 34, and marks the point where a third of the programme is now underway. By 2012 all 100 projects will be underway and many exemplary projects will have been delivered to create a better quality of life for Londoners and to showcase London to the world as it hosts the Olympic Games. It is not only a legal requirement when public funds are involved, it is also an effective way of getting the best for our built environment. The Greater London Authority Group including the London Development Agency and Transport for London are committed to raising the level of design in their wide range of initiatives and are therefore committed to best practice in commissioning project designs. This document provides guidance on how to improve the quality of architecture and urban design across London through the use of competitive selection. It sets out ways of bringing the best designers on board to raise the level of design thinking and practice across the entire portfolio of GLA Group projects. The Mayor's 100 Public Spaces Programme - Second Phase, December 2003 Fourteen new projects have been selected for the second phase of the Mayor's 100 Public Spaces Programme. Through the selection process the AUU has sought an even distribution of projects across London and to ensure that outer London is well represented. The projects are closely aligned with the investment programmes of both Transport for London (TfL) and the London Development Agency (LDA) and will seek to ensure that public space improvement is a central part of wider regeneration initiatives. part one PDF (700k) London Riverside Urban Strategy, November 2002 The London Riverside Urban Strategy sets out the development framework for a new mixed urban centre on the River Thames. London Riverside, which extends across six square kilometres from Barking Creek to Rainham Marshes, is an area of contrasts, challenges and opportunities, containing some of London's largest vacant sites, important industrial areas, and some of the capital's last wild spaces. By 2016, London Riverside will be able to accommodate 20,000 new homes and jobs for an extra 25,000 people.
