100 Public Spaces

The Mayor's 100 Public Spaces programme aims to create or upgrade one hundred public spaces in London. It will demonstrate the difference improved public space can make, and the ways in which the highest quality designs can be secured without excessive expenditure.

The programme was launched in July 2002 with the announcement of 10 pilot projects, and 14 more projects were announced in November 2003. The third phase, a further 10 projects, was launched in September 2005, bringing the total number of projects to 34 and marking the point where a third of the programme is underway.

By the time London hosts the Olympic Games in 2012, the full programme of 100 public spaces will be underway and a number of exemplary projects will have been delivered across London to help showcase the city to the world.
