Mayor meets Sergio Cabral

As Rio de Janeiro plans progress to stage the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Mayor of London welcomed its  State Governor, Sergio Cabral, to City Hall to offer his support and advice to the next host city both before, during and after Rio2016.

Governor Cabral was in the capital heading up a delegation to develop trade links and attract  overseas investment into the Brazilian state as well as learning lessons from London, a host city that is on budget and on schedule to deliver the next Olympic and Paralympic Games. The delegation will also visit the Olympic Park and Somerset House which will be the base from which Brazil will promote itself to the world during London 2012.

Officers from the Mayor's London 2012 team have been collaborating with their counterparts in Brazil since the city won its bid to host the 2016 games in 2009.


 

Mayor meets Chinese Ambassador

On 12 April, the Mayor met with Mr Yu Zhengsheng, Party Secretary of Shanghai and HE Mr Liu Xiaoming, Chinese Ambassador. The Mayor congratulated on the success of the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai and thanked Mr Yu for his support to London's presence at the Expo. The Mayor introduced the new single promotion agency London and Partners and reiterated London's committed to its relationship wth Shanghai and China. The Mayor briefed Mr Yu and Ambassador Liu on the opportunities in and around the Olympic park and would welcome Chinese investors to London.


 

Engagement with the diplomatic community  

On 16 March 2011, Guto Harri, Director of External Affairs, spoke to the Diplomatic Press Attachés’ Association of London (DPAAL) on the work of Mayor's Office and discussed how we could work together in areas of common interest.

Deputy Mayor greets visitors from Oslo

Richard Barnes, the Statutory Deputy Mayor, met with Mr Torger Odegaard, the Vice Mayor for Cultural Affairs and Education of Oslo and senior officers from the City of Oslo on 13 January 2011.

Deputy Mayor meets High Commissioner of Trinidad and Tobago

Richard Barnes, the Statutory Deputy Mayor, met with His Excellency Garvin Nicholas, High Commissioner of Trinidad and Tobago on 4 January 2011.

Africa @ 50 

On 27 October 2010, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor welcomed a number of African Ambassadors and High Commisioners as well as numerous other guest to a reception at City Hall to mark 50 years of independence in Africa.
