This paper sets out Transport for London’s (TfL’s) proposed fare changes to be implemented from 2 January 2011. The proposed changes will increase TfL fares by 6.8% overall, in line with TfL’s Business Planning assumptions to increase fares by 2% more than the annual Retail Price Index (RPI) increase, which stood at 4.8% in the benchmark month of July 2010. The proposed changes are expected to raise around £165m per year and will help protect front line services and key investment programmes. On the Underground, Travelcard season prices generally increase in line with the overall fares target. Pay as you go (PAYG) fares increase between 10p and 30p. Some off-peak PAYG fares are frozen while PAYG fares to Zone 1 in the evening peak are reduced to the off-peak rate. The Bus Pass season price increases by 7.2% and the bus PAYG single fare by 10p to 130p. The refundable deposit on a new Oystercard increases from £3 to £5.
