From Recession to Recovery: The Skills and Employment Strategy for London (2009-2014)
A revision of the Board’s strategy that takes into account the impact of the recession and the steps necessary to contribute to recovery. It maintains the strategic goals for employers, Londoners and the simplification of the employment and skills system as well as establishing a set of short term priorities to March 2011.

The London Story Update 2009
An update to the Board’s evidence base, The London Story Update 2009 paints a picture of a city with continuing structural challenges but dominated by a need to deal with the impact of the recession.

Stakeholder Survey
The LSEB commissioned a stakeholder survey in order to assess:
- the level of awareness of the LSEB and its Strategy;
- perceived effectiveness (and continued relevance) of the Strategy;
- the role of the LSEB in integrating employment and skills, and
- future priorities for the LSEB in light of the changing economic context.
The results of the survey are summarised here, along with responses from the Board following consideration of the survey’s findings.

Rolling forward of the LSEB Strategy to 2014 consultation document
As part of the first annual review of the Strategy, the Board is undertaking a consultation with stakeholders on the update to the Strategy. This document sets out the rationale and direction of travel for the rolling forward of the Strategy to 2014. The revised strategy and a report on the consultation will be published later in 2009.

LSEB Response to the London Assembly EDCST Committee Scrutiny on Skills for Unemployed Londoners
The Economic Development, Culture, Sport and Tourism Committee of the London Assembly is conducting a investigation into the skills and training support available to Londoners seeking employment. The Committee invited the LSEB to make a written submission of evidence for this investigation. This document is the LSEB response.

LSEB Business Plan for 2009/10
The business plan sets out three broad themes for the work of the Board and includes a revised implementation plan for 2009/10, replacing the implementation plans published in July 2008. The plan demonstrates the Board’s ambition to make significant progress towards the objectives set out in the Strategy while ensuring actions in the short-term are focussed on mitigating the impact of the recession.

London's Future
This is the Board's first Skills and Employment Strategy for London. It sets out a blueprint for the changes required to improve employment and skills outcomes for Londoners and London employers over the next five years. To accompany the Strategy, the Board also published implementation plans covering the three Strategic Aims of the Strategy. These plans form the basis by which the Board’s ambitions will be realised.

The London Approach
Following consultation on its draft Strategy, which ended on 21 January 2008, the LSEB released The London Approach in March 2008. This document describes the key points raised during the consultation and outlines how the Board will work with key stakeholders to ensure that the Board’s ambition is translated into workable solutions that are informed and owned by those using and delivering services.

Draft Strategy
The Board's draft strategy - Skills and Employment in London: Proposals for the London Skills and Employment Board’s Strategy – was launched for public consultation on 30 October 2007 and consultation closed on 21 January 2008.
The draft Strategy set out an ambition for London, and proposed five interconnected challenges along with priorities and proposed actions.

The London Story 2007
The Board determined that the strategy should be supported by the development of a robust evidence base. Globalisation, Skills and Employment: The London Story sets out that evidence base. The document summarises relevant data and information and draws attention to key issues pertinent to skills and employment in London. It is being published to inform consideration of the draft strategy, to set out for interested parties some of the key information that has informed the Board’s deliberations.

Sustainability appraisal
An independent interim Sustainability Appraisal of the Draft London Skills & Employment Strategy has been carried out and a further appraisal will be undertaken on the final strategy in order to inform the development of its implementation.

ESOL report
Recognising the vital role that English language training plays in promoting economic prosperity and community cohesion the Board commissioned research to understand and explore the critical issues for ESOL in more detail. The purpose was to identify what progress was already being made in creating more effective ESOL, and the key blockages that continue to prevent this progress from being rolled out.

In response to this report the Board appreciated the importance of opening up a dialogue with providers to develop the solutions needed to strengthen the effectiveness of ESOL in the capital. The Board sponsored an event to give the opportunity for providers, public agencies, Board members and other key contributors to work together to build ideas to step up the progress in developing more effective ESOL support for individuals and for employers. This is a summary of the outcomes from this event in February 2008.
