Brendan Loughran
Group Director Learning and Skills
Brendan joined the LDA as Group Director Learning and Skills in January
2010.
Brendan has over 30 years experience delivering children and young
people’s services at all levels in local government.
He studied at the University of Ulster and the University of East
Anglia and began his career with the Belfast Education and Library
Board’s Youth Services in 1978. Brendan subsequently held County
Manager and Assistant Director posts in Education Management, Regeneration
and Life-long learning with Norfolk, Cheshire and Suffolk County Councils.
In 2006 Brendan was recruited as Head of Service for the new Lifelong
Learning and Economic Wellbeing service in the London Borough of Newham
with a view to maximising the economic legacy of the 2012 Games for
local young people. He was promoted to the post of Divisional Director
for Learning and Skills at Newham in April 2009.
Brendan’s role as Group Director will focus on areas of key
importance for achieving the Mayor’s vision for London – sustainable
employment and skills development. His appointment comes as London
starts to rebuild many of the sectors affected by the recession.
