Brendan Loughran

Group Director Learning and Skills

Brendan Loughran

Brendan joined the LDA as Group Director Learning and Skills in January 2010.

Brendan has over 30 years experience delivering children and young people’s services at all levels in local government.

He studied at the University of Ulster and the University of East Anglia and began his career with the Belfast Education and Library Board’s Youth Services in 1978. Brendan subsequently held County Manager and Assistant Director posts in Education Management, Regeneration and Life-long learning with Norfolk, Cheshire and Suffolk County Councils.

In 2006 Brendan was recruited as Head of Service for the new Lifelong Learning and Economic Wellbeing service in the London Borough of Newham with a view to maximising the economic legacy of the 2012 Games for local young people. He was promoted to the post of Divisional Director for Learning and Skills at Newham in April 2009.

Brendan’s role as Group Director will focus on areas of key importance for achieving the Mayor’s vision for London – sustainable employment and skills development. His appointment comes as London starts to rebuild many of the sectors affected by the recession.
