David Butcher, Managing Director, Service Introduction, BT Operate

David manages BT’s Service Introduction team responsible for ensuring that new services or changes to systems and process are successfully managed into BT. Success will be measured through the improved customer experience created by new services and the reduction in re-work costs.

He moved into the new role having previously run Operational Integrity (BT, computing operations) in July 2007.

David moved into BT Operate from his role as OneIT’s Chief Operating Officer where he was responsible for resource and vendor management, professional communities, training and communications. He led the transformation programme which saw the creation of a single pan BT Division IT with changes to its processes and ways of working.

He has had a varied BT career including holding the positions of BT Global Services’ Chief Information Officer; Director Corporate Strategy during BT’s debt reduction period and Chief Operating Officer for BT Europe. Living in Italy, he created Albacom which grew twenty-five fold in four years, won a mobile licence and acquired a controlling stake in I-Net. His other roles at BT included strategy, product management, advertising and sales promotion.

He is a member of the London Skills and Employment Board - a statutory body chaired by the Mayor of London - and the UK Skills Board for IT.

David lives in London with his wife Jayne and son. He is a life-long Ipswich Town supporter.
