The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

On 6 July 2005 the International Olympic Committee announced that London had won the contest to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

2012 may seem a long time away, but when it comes to the mammoth task of organising the Games, London is wasting no time. Work is already taking place to lay the foundations for the preparation, delivery and legacy of the Games.

The London Organising Committee for the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) is replacing London 2012, the organisation that was responsible for London's successful bid for the Games. LOCOG is tasked with planning, organising, marketing and staging the Games. The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) will be responsible for the delivery of the Games’ venues and infrastructure, within and outside the Olympic Park.

The Games will bring more than four weeks of sporting activities to London in the summer of 2012 – plus all the prestige accompanying this world-famous event. The Games will bring benefits to Londoners, and many of these will last long after the end of the sporting events.
