London’s housing stock is made up of approximately 3.1 million units. Of this 74 per cent are in the private sector, 16 per cent are local authority run, and 9 per cent are provided by the around 450 housing associations.

Land Registry - The Land Registry's Residential Property Price Report provides a detailed and authoritative insight into what is actually happening to average prices and sales volumes in the residential property market for England and Wales. Broken down by property type, the figures incorporate average prices and number of sales within Greater London by individual London Boroughs.
Using Land Registry data BBC News provides prices of UK homes.
Halifax House Price Index offers statistics indicating how average house prices within each UK region have moved and published since 1983.
Nationwide House Prices Site has statistics of house price changes and average prices plus commentaries on the housing market. There are also monthly and quarterly reviews. Statistics go back to 1973.

Council Tax

The Association of London Government publishes a breakdown of Council Tax charges for each borough.

Schools

Use Ofsted's website to find inspection reports for:

day-care providers (NB the website only lists providers with published inspection reports)
state sector nurseries
state sector schools
independent schools
special schools
pupil referral units (PRUs)
further education and sixth form colleges.

Local authority

The London boroughs websites offer information about the services provided by the local authority.

Who lives there

The Government's Office for National Statistics provides Census data on ethnicity, religion, health, housing, people and Neighbourhood statistics covering crime, health and housing.
