Emergency dental treatment

If you are registered with a dentist, phone their surgery even out of hours, as there may be information on what to do in an emergency on their answerphone.

Otherwise, contact NHS Direct to find an emergency dentist in London. If you are registered with a dentist and can get to them soon, NHS Direct will suggest that you contact them for an emergency appointment. If the wait would be too long, or if you are not registered or are visiting London, they will give you the details of an emergency dentist. You usually have to wait for a while at an emergency dentist’s surgery.

Alternatively, you could arrange to see a private dentist. This can be expensive, but you may be able to secure an appointment more quickly. The NHS and British Dental Association sites have search facilities to help you find local dentists – some may just take private patients, others may do a mix of private and NHS work.
