Community cohesion – in partnership with NHS London

  • Association of Greater London Older Women - for their performance work challenging ageism across service deliverers and getting people talking about good practice and how it can be achieved. (Pan-London)
  • Springfield Young Mothers – a Clapham-based cooking club that brings together refugees and local people to share recipes and make friends through sharing recipes and techniques from their home countries. (Lambeth).
  • The Stuart Low Trust - for their ‘Friday evening events’ for people who’ve experienced prejudice, loneliness and malnutrition. Events include wholesome food, dance, music and poetry and the chance to make friends, build personal confidence and skills for better health. (Islington).

Mental well-being - sponsored by University of East London

  • Beside Mental Health Community Project, Hearing Voices Group – are helping mental health service users in Tower Hamlets who hear voices to improve their lives by giving them coping skills and helping them make friends and support each other.
  • Stonebridge Older Persons Forum – are a group of older people that noticed that a lot of other older people on their estate looked ‘sad, nervous and depressed’ and decided to get together and do something about it. They get together monthly meetings where they can make new friends and discuss issues of concern. These meetings have included presentations from the fire brigade, local police, health service, the local council and many older people’s organisations. (Brent)
  • The Stuart Low Trust – for their ‘Outings project’ that helps people with mental health issues and a range of other issues to visit places of interest they would find difficult to visit alone. The visits cement new friendships and mutual support as well as build confidence and mental well-being. The visits are widely enjoyed and include a healthy lunch.

Partnership Achievement – in partnership with London Development Agency

  • Listening Ears – works in partnership with NHS Greenwich and others to reduce loneliness and enhance community cohesion through bringing people together for ‘Feelgood Fridays’ that offer a opportunities to get active, training and leaning, and monthly pampering days. (Greenwich)
  • Maslaha – is working with GP surgeries and Mile end Hospital and local imams to help the Muslim community in Tower Hamlets and Westminster with diabetes to access services and manage the illness. (A project within the Young Foundation, Tower Hamlets)
  • Parkside Malvern Residents Association – worked with Haringey Council and local businesses to create a community garden on former waste ground giving their neighbourhood a shared amenity, a sense of identify and a focus for future collaboration.

Small and medium businesses (1)

Good jobs – Sponsored by HSE London and Health, Work and Well-being programme

  • ASC Accountants – A small accountancy that is improving productivity, team spirit and communication by providing free healthy food, promoting cycling to work and encouraging people to stop smoking and see a GP when needed. (5 staff, Camden Town NW1)
  • Envision – a youth empowerment organisation with a successful internship programme. Almost half their workforce are interns and the programme benefits the company and nurtures a diverse, creative and dynamic workforce. (29 staff, Islington, EC1V)
  • Fluidata – a small internet solution provider that is increasing productivity and reducing sick leave through a combination of free breakfasts and fruit, music in the office after 4pm and health insurance and gym membership. (19 staff, Southwark SE1)
  • Forster – a communications agency for their Annual Ethical Review that examines the company’s impact of their staff, the local community, suppliers and clients and the environment. The review is externally validated and is benefiting the company, its staff and the wider community. (46 staff, Southwark SE1)
  • Happy – and IT training, management and personal development, and online learning company where 100% of the staff work flexibly in a way that supports the ‘whole’ person to create a motivated engaged and loyal workforce. (35 staff, Tower Hamlets E1)
  • System Concepts – a consultancy, training and research services company that has developed a Health and well-being programme to reduce stress, reduce musculoskeletal discomfort and increase the health and fitness of its people. (32 staff, Westminster, WC2)

Well London (1)

  • Well London Barnfield (Greenwich) – Young ambassador, and Delivery Team member, Nancy for her work as a volunteer including setting up the Well London world cup web site, designing and distributing leaflets and posters, and encouraging her community to get involved in the programme.
  • The Junction Residents’ Association – for bringing together local people to create an attractive, safe, clean space for residents to enjoy. They have worked with many agencies to build local partnerships and have successfully fundraised a programme of open space improvements and fun activities. (Brent).
  • Lansbury Gardeners – for bringing together their local community together to set up a garden and grow vegetables. The project has become self-sustaining and run by volunteers and has led to new friendships and social networks.

Mayor’s Award for Active Travel in partnership with TfL

  • Hillingdon Slipstreamers – a volunteer-run children’s Saturday morning cycling club that is encouraging young people to cycle more often and get them out in the fresh air. The club promotes social, community and competitive cycling to benefit health, fitness and enjoyment.
  • Wheels for well-being – a Lambeth-based charity enabling disabled people to cycle safely as a form of transport and off the road in parks and green spaces.
