Description of park

Wandle Park is a small historic park in the centre of Croydon. The park consists of mainly mown grassland fringed with mature trees. It also has a playground, skate park and rose garden. The River Wandle used to run through the park but is now buried underground.

How the park is being improved

The aim is to restore Wandle Park to an outstanding green haven for all who live and work in Croydon to enjoy.

The Mayor is helping to fund improvements to Wandle Park including:

• Restoration of the River Wandle
• A new ball court
• A new skate park

Progress

The existing play area and skate park have been removed ready for the new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) and Skate Park to be built in January. Enabling works for the river have also begun. The Skater Park and MUGA will be completed by March and improvements will continue beyond 2012 with additional funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to transform the whole park.
