Description of park

Parish Wood Park is a small park in a residential area on the boundary between the London boroughs of Bexley and Greenwich. The park consists of open grassland and woodland. The River Shuttle runs through the park. Parish Wood Park previously suffered from poor access and fly-tipping.

How the park is being improved

The aim for Parish Wood Park is to improve access, make the park more welcoming, more natural and better for recreation. These improvements will help local people feel a stronger sense of pride in the park and be better able to enjoy its natural features.

The Mayor is helping to fund improvements to Parish Wood Park including:

  • Installation of new fencing
  • Construction of new footpaths
  • New signage
  • New furniture including litter bins and seating
  • Construction of a new pond and wetland/li>
  • Construction of a new footbridge across the River Shuttle
  • Improvements to the woodland and creation of a wildflower meadow

Progress

All the main improvements are now complete and the Mayor visited the Parish Wood to officially open the new improved park in November 2011. The final planting will take place in the New Year.
