  • The Mayor's Submission to the Energy Review April 2006
The government's energy review asked for feedback on its progress in cutting carbon dioxide emissions to 60% by 2050, with significant progress by 2020, maintaining reliabilty of energy supplies, keeping energy costs down and eradicating fuel poverty. The Mayor's response presents evidence that in London this can best be achieved through a combination of improved energy efficiency and a decentralised approach to energy supply. Major reductions in carbon dioxide emissions could be achieved without the need to build any new nuclear plant by generating electricity, heat and cooling close to housing and workplaces with combined heat and power plant and renewable energy and distributing this through community heating and cooling networks.
