- Providing for Children and Young People’s Play and Informal Recreation March 2008
This SPG aims to help those involved in planning local neighbourhoods to engage with young Londoners to deliver real improvements in the quality of play spaces. The Mayor wants to see a child-friendly London with inclusive, accessible, and safe play spaces that allow all young Londoners to engage in fun, positive, and healthy play and recreation in their own communities and throughout London.

The GLA has commissioned a report into 'What works in preventing and re-engaging young people NEET in London'. This refers particularly to 16-18 year olds, who are 'not in education, employment or training'. Alongside the main report is a toolkit document designed to help extended schools who are working with this group.

The aim of the Kids Swim Free scheme was to encourage swimming and exercise
amongst young Londoners, and it operated in school holidays in five East
London boroughs. This report evaluated the scheme during the Easter Holidays
2004.

- Young Londoners' survey
A survey of young Londoners aged 11-16 years, conducted in June 2004 by ICM
on behalf of the Greater London Authority, reveals issues of concern to children
and young people, their views about living in the capital and their attitudes
to key mayoral policies. The survey suggests that young people may be more
positive about living in the capital than might have been imagined.

- Quality Care for Children: Registration and Inspection Standards
for Residential Children's Homes in London
Published on behalf of London Inspectors Children's Services Group and
winner of the first national Social Care Award in the category Improving
Protection, this handbook was revised in 2000 to incorporate changes
in legislation, new guidance and government initiatives concerning children's
residential services. Quality Care for Children provides a comprehensive
framework for residential providers in setting and maintaining standards
and for local authority inspectors in developing a consistent and systematic
approach to regulation and inspection. This framework has been adopted
by local authorities across London.

Government. They can be collected free of charge by arrangement with
