City Hall and London Open House weekend

Visitors enjoying the view of Tower Bridge from the 9th floor during Open House Weekend, Sept 2002City Hall, the headquarters of the Greater London Authority was open to the public for London Open House Weekend between 9am and 6pm on 19 and 20 September 2009. Visit the London Open House website at www.londonopenhouse.org.

During Open House Weekend visitors have the opportunity to see and walk around some areas that are not normally open to the public during the week. These include the Chamber, a purpose-built space for meetings and debates; London's Living Room, an open space on the top floor with a walkway around the perimeter offering panoramic views; and the spiral ramp/stairs, which winds its way through the building, offering glimpses of the open-plan offices and views of the Thames and the Tower of London.

London's Living Room hosted 'City of a Thousand Architects: Building Challenge'. This event for kids aged 5-10 ran from 10am - 1pm on both days, giving kids and parents a chance to express their creativity, building fun architectural structures and designing an alternative London skyline.

Full details of the Open House programme can be found at www.openhouse.org.uk.
