City Hall education visits FAQs

Are the visits free?

Yes. The visits themselves are free of charge.

Can the GLA contribute to travel costs to City Hall?

No. We are unable to contribute to the costs of travel and encourage visiting parties to use public transport where possible. For information about the Transport for London free school travel scheme please visit: School Party Travel Scheme (external website).

How long does each visit last?

The visit usually lasts around 2 hours, however your host will ask your departure time at the beginning of the visit and there is room for flexibility.

Are there facilities for eating packed lunches at City Hall?

No. Unfortunately we don’t have any dedicated space inside City Hall for eating packed lunches, however Hays Galleria, a covered shopping arcade with seating areas, is a just short walk from City Hall.

Does the visit include a tour of City Hall?

Unfortunately we are unable to guarantee a tour of City Hall on the day of the visit, as access to the different areas of the building is dependant on meetings and events taking place in the building on the day.

How many students can visit in one group?

We have a maximum group size of 40 students, plus as many accompanying adults as you wish to bring.

Will the group be able to meet the Mayor?

Unfortunately because of the Mayor's busy schedule he is unable to meet with visiting groups of students, however a pre-recorded video message from the Mayor will be shown as part of the presentation.

Will the group be able to meet with their local Assembly Member?

Upon request, an invitation can be submitted to your local Assembly Member asking them to meet with the students. However this is of course subject to the individual Member's schedule.

Are there any parking spaces available at City Hall?

All groups visiting City Hall are encouraged to use public transport where possible, however very limited parking may be available when booked in advance, strictly for blue badge holders. Can groups from outside London book an education visit?

Unfortunately, owing to high levels of demand, the visits are currently restricted to London groups only. All other groups are welcome to visit City Hall as members of the public.

What ages are the visits suitable for?

The visits are suitable for all ages from key stage 2 and above, that is ages 7 and above. We also offer visits for colleges, universities and other London groups.
