Richmond upon ThamesAbout Richmond upon Thames
Richmond has a population of 176,200, and is prosperous borough, with the lowest deprivation ranking in the capital. Richmond is one of the least ethnically diverse boroughs in London, with a BME population of just 9 per cent. Between December 2004 and December 2005, the total number of crimes in the borough fell by 4 per cent, in line with the London-wide average. During the same period, the number of homicides went down from 4 to 3 cases. However, gun-enabled crime increased significantly, from 14 to 37 incidents, an increase of 164 per cent. The Richmond Community Safety Strategy 2005-8 lists several key priorities, including tackling anti-social behaviour, reducing youth offending, and reducing substance misuse. |
