Hillindon has 247,400 residents, and an average sized BME population at 21 per cent. Most of the BME population is from the Asian community. The borough has a high proportion of people aged under 20. There is also a relatively high percentage of people aged over 60 compared with other London boroughs. Hillindon is one of the least deprived boroughs in London, and least overcrowded. Between December 2004 and December 2005, the overall number of crimes decreased by 3 pe cent in Hillindon, compared to a 4 per cent decrease London-wide. Gun enabled crime went down by 16 per cent in the same period, and homicide incidents went from 4 in 2005 to none in 2005. Hillingdon's Community Safety Strategy 2005-8 outlines several key priorities, including reducing anti-social behaviour, hate crime, motor vehicle crime, residential burglary, and violent crime.
