Havering

About Havering

Location map of HaveringThe London Borough of Havering is one of the largest London boroughs. Over half of the borough is greenbelt land, from the expanse of estuary marshlands encircling Rainham to the open farmland bordering Essex to the north and east.

Havering has 225,500 residents and a very small BME population - only 5 per cent of Havering residents belong to a BME group.

Nearly a quarter of people in Havering are aged over 60 and this is among the highest in London.

Havering is one of the least deprived boroughs in the capital and the least over-crowded in terms of housing.

Between December 2004 and December 2005, the total number of crimes in the borough fell by 2 per cent, compared to the average London-wide reduction of 4 per cent.

Homicide levels, already low, fell to 1 incident in the same period, and gun-enabled crime decreased by 18 per cent.

The Havering Crime, Disorder and Drugs Reduction Strategy 2005-8 lists key priorites such as reducing violent crime, property crime and hate crimes, as well as reducing focusing on young people both as victims and offenders.
