EalingMetropolitan Police Service (MPS) operation: About Ealing
Ealing is a diverse borough, with 41% of residents belonging to a BME community, the largest of which is the Asian community. Ealing has a young population, with almost a quarter of its residents aged under 20. Between December 2004 and December 2005, overall crime levels in Ealing remained similar, compared to a London-wide 4% decrease in crime. There was a slight decrease in homicide incidents, and a 5% reduction in gun-enabled crime during the same period. Some of the targets outlined in the Safer Ealing Strategy 2005-8 include reducing overall crime by 20% by 2008, reducing residents' fear and perception of crime by involving them in initiatives, enhancing the work of the borough's domestic violence forum, reducing anti-social behaviour and substance misuse, and introducing a Prolific and Priority Offenders (PPO) team to target adult and young prolific offenders - this service will include rehabilitation and resettlement. To obtain a copy of the 2005-8 strategy, please contact the Safer Ealing Unit at seu@ealing.gov.uk. |
