About Camden

Location map of CamdenAn as inner-London borough, the London Borough of Camden faces a number of challenges, including high levels of crime disorder, the primary concern for residents and businesses across the borough. Camden's deprivation ranking in London is 8/33.

Camden has a resident population of 213,600, with a relatively large BME population at 27 per cent of the population. Camden's population is young, with a high proportion of people aged 39 and under.

Between December 2004 and December 2005, overall crime in the borough fell by 10 per cent, compared to the London-wide average of a 4 per cent decrease in crime.

Gun-enabled crime stayed stable in the same period. However, homicide cases went up from 4 to 22 incidents in the same period.

The Safer Camden Strategy 2005-8, has as a strategic priority to bring the crime rate down in Camden to 40,000 offences a year, reduce the harm caused by illegal drugs, and forge an effective and responsive partnership working at neighbourhood level that inspires community confidence.
