London Against Gun and Knife Crime

Working in partnership to reduce and prevent violence associated with gangs in London

About the projects featured on this website

This website is a tool for practitioners working with young people involved in, or at risk of getting involved in gangs and gun crime. Practitioners will be able to share ideas and best practice, and access information on the latest developments relating to gang crime.

There are around 85 youth projects that feature on this website, which cover a huge variety of themes such as films, theatre, sports, workshops, music and police enforcement.

Some of the projects are 'early intervention' projects, which typically take place in schools or youth centres and focus on awareness raising or distracting young people from crime. An example of this kind of project is Prison Me No Way, where young people are given a realistic portrayal of the consequences of breaking the law through films, plays, workshops and a prison van.

Other projects work directly with young people who are involved in gangs or gun crime, or at risk of (re)offending. They might be in Young Offender Institutions or on local estates. The X-it programme, for example, works with recognized 'crews' and provides intensive group work and residentials.

Several Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) operations are featured on this website. These involve different approaches to policing gun and knife related violence and also public awareness raising initiatives. Operation Trident, which focuses on gun crime committed in the Black community, is an example of this type of project.
