Maslenitsa
26 FEBRUARY 2012 13:30
Everyone’s invited to Trafalgar Square on Sunday 26 February to celebrate the Russian folk festival of Maslenitsa.
This family event features dance, theatre and music from across Russia and a children’s marquee. You’ll also be able to shop at a bustling bazaar selling Russian handicrafts and souvenirs, and sample authentic Russian dishes, such as blini (pancakes).
Performers on the main stage include rock legends Chaif, the State Pyatnitzky Choir, folk duo Zventa Sventana, reality TV pop group In Yan, the eclectic Balagan Limited, the Ulger ensemble, Russian favourite Valery Syutkin and the award winning A’Capella ExpreSSS.
The main event ends a week of festivities in London including a photo exhibition at City Hall, a fashion show at the V&A and a culinary evening at SamarQand Restaurant, see www.maslenitsa.co.uk for details.
Maslenitsa is organised by Ensemble Productions with support from the Mayor of London.
This is just one of the many free and exciting events the Mayor is presenting in the run up to a summer like no other and beyond. From Big Dance to St Patrick's Day, SURPRISES, a series of one-off events and SHOWTIME, bringing entertainment to every corner of London town, there really will be something for everyone.
