Raising aspiration and achievement amongst black children
This is your chance to hear about new initiatives on mentoring, supplementary schools, academies and Team London, and how we can all play a role in helping the prospects of young Londoners.
Speakers will include Boris Johnson, Mayor of London; Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Education; Erica Pienaar, Executive Headteacher, Prendergast-Hilly Fields College; Tony Sewell, CEO of Generating Genius; Lindsay Johns, broadcaster and journalist; with further speakers to be confirmed shortly.
There will be a number of workshops in the morning and afternoon. Likely themes are expected to include:
- Supporting children: Mentoring
- Achievement and aspirations for black children: Stories of success
- Playing your part: Volunteering and community involvement
- Exclusions and parental advocacy: What you should know, what you can do
- Getting involved: Supplementary schools, free schools
- Listening to young people I: In their own words
- Listening to young people II: Leaders of the future
- Parents and families: The primary educators
