Lighting at night
All office buildings and public buildings should have internal lights turned off at night, and every new building should have motion senstive lighting to present lighting being left on all night. Light patrols should seek out persistent offenders. Every second lamp post should be turned off at night. Lights on the tube and at mainline stations should be turned off when the tube/station is not in use. Lights illuminating public buildings should be switched off at midnight, unless a special occasion. + 0 comments |

Packaging tax
Litter from fast food and packaging is a blight on London. Consumers who litter fail to pay any cost for their litter. Consumers who don't litter subsidise, through taxes, those that do litter. Recycling levels are too low. Combine the two issues into a monetary incentive to recycle and a tax on litter. All re-cylcable packaging sold with food in London should have a tax attached. The return of the packaging would generate repayment of the tax to the returning customer. Say, glass bottles (£0.50), plastic bottles (£0.10), other packaging (including fast food) the tax would depend on type. Net revenue (tax - less returns) used to pay specifically for cleaning the streets. + 1 comments |
