Turn off the lights
One of the simplest ways to save energy in London has to be to turn off the office lights at night. Most of the offices are lit up like xmas trees 24 hours a day. It is simple to integrate PIRs to switch off this lighting when the space is unoccupied so why isn't it being done? I think the Mayor should put pressure on building occupiers to switch off the lights and if they persist in leaving them on then they should be fined for light pollution. + 0 comments |

Off Site Renewables
Targets for renewable energy production on site in London are a great idea. THe reality is that on new developments in the City they are difficult to incorporate and where they can be they are done so to 'tick a box' and get planning consent. THey are often not cost effective and payback periods are beyond what is considered acceptable. THey can also be an inefficient use of funds, producing little carbon saving per £. It would make sense to give developers an option to invest these funds into a dedicated fund for developing renewable energy remote from London. THe money could be pooled and invested in wind turbines or other renewables that would be a much more efficient use of the money. + 0 comments |
