Keep our gardens free from non-permeable concrete
The guidance on the permeable surfacing of front gardens issued by the Enviroment Agency allows residents to cover open ground with non-permable surfaces. Apparently after I approached our council it is not illegal to do this but unlawful! I have always believed "illegal" to mean contrary to statue or statutory instrument, whereas "unlawful" can mean in breach of, not only statue, but ider laws such as by-laws.As soon a a property is vacated the new incumbents uproot every growing thing and cover the ground, usually building a small property at the bottom of the garden. The front garden is paved over for parking. If peple continue to uproot our established gardens and do not replant we are adding to the destruction of our planet. Apart from aesthetic point of view, the destruction of our vegetation will encourage flooding; the lack of trees will increase the production of carbon dioxide. We know that trees are the only known feasible way to reduce carbon dioxide going through the process of photosynthesis.Allow the local councils to be more pro-active in preventing the concreting over of our valuable landscapes. + 2 comments |
