Our climate is already changing and further changes are expected – particularly unless we drastically reduce our carbon emissions.
To prepare for a changing climate we need to adapt our homes, communities and lifestyles to prepare for more frequent:
· Floods
· Droughts
· Heatwaves.
This is climate change adaptation and the Mayor has developed a climate change adaptation strategy for London. This document proposes how we can work together to achieve this goal and is the focus of this public consultation.
However, alongside adapting to a changing climate, London must also take a lead in avoiding further and more dangerous climate change by reducing C02 emissions and being more energy efficient. Therefore, the Mayor is also preparing a separate climate change mitigation and energy strategy, which he has published for consultation with the London Assembly and functional bodies. It is also available for view and comment on this site. It will be available for full public consultation later this year. The Mayor is already pursuing a range of programmes which are detailed in this document to help London cut carbon including schemes to cut energy in domestic and public sector buildings, reduce CO2 emissions from energy supply and encouraging low emission transport.
