Capital Clean-up
Capital Clean-up is a partnership campaign led by the Mayor of London as part of his Team London volunteering programme. Our objectives are to:
- Make the capital a cleaner, safer and greener place for the 2012 Games and beyond, and
- Increase volunteering across London by encouraging Londoners to get involved in the cleanliness of their local environment.
What we do
The campaign is now in its fifth year of helping London communities take part in the maintenance of the places where they live and work. So far, we have coordinated over 1,000 clean-up events led by community groups, members of the public and local authorities. Clean-ups have included:
- Thames riverbank and canal clean-ups
- Litter picks
- Habitat restoration; and
- Graffiti removal
How to get involved
With the 2012 Games only months away, the Mayor is encouraging as many people as possible to help clean up the Capital. You can get involved all year round by:
- Holding your own clean-up event: Please visit our Advice and Support page for more information on how to plan an event and register your clean-up with us to get it advertised via our map and event calendar
- Taking part in a clean-up event near you: Please see our map and event calendar of events
- Using the Love Clean London free mobile phone app or website to post pictures of your clean-up or report areas near you that need to be cleaned up

What’s coming up?
Look out for Thames21’s Big Waterways Clean Up, supported by the Capital Clean-Up, which is running from January to July 2012 – a series of exciting volunteer events to clean up East London’s rivers and canals in time for the Olympics. The aim is to produce a legacy of community activity and connection with local waterways, for sustainable benefit to Londoners and the environment.
