Current petitions list

Listed below are the petitions that have been submitted to the London Assembly during 2009, the most recent at the top.

14. Restoration of funding for disabled access and refurbishment work at Harrow-on-the-Hill station

‘We the undersigned residents and users of Harrow-on-the-Hill Station are dismayed at the sudden decision by TfL (chaired by the Mayor) to withdraw the funding for disabled access and refurbishment works urgently required for this station.

We would like to draw to the attention of both the Mayor and London Assembly that the funding of £25 million was agreed with TfL as part of Harrow Council's negotiations in respect of the regeneration proposals for Harrow Town Centre. The sudden announcement of the cancellation of funding, with no consultation with Harrow Council, the London Assembly Member for Brent and Harrow and other stakeholders, is a serious blow not only to the much needed disability access to and upgrade of the station but to the regeneration of the town centre which has been designed relying on a new integrated public transport provision.

We are appalled that the funding allocation is put back by TEN years which is totally unacceptable. We support Harrow Council's dismay at the sudden cancellation of funding and call on the Mayor to restore the funding as agreed previously with TfL ’

13. Installation of lifts at Stanmore Underground Station

‘We the undersigned urgently request the installation of lifts at Stanmore Underground Station, as an addition to the current enlargement.

The existing "disabled access" is completely inadequate. It is a long steep path, which is impossible for many disabled people and people pushing wheelchairs to negotiate.

The usual entrance/exit (via 48 steep steps) can be difficult even for the able-bodied - particularly the elderly, people with heavy luggage, those with small children, pushchairs etc.

At a time when all public buildings are required to have proper disabled access, this should surely be a priority at a tube-station, particularly one which serves such important venues as the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and Wembley Stadium, and which will be used by people from all over the country during the Olympics and Paralympics ’

12. Extension to timings of two pedestrian crossings on Marylebone Road near Enford Street

‘We the undersigned ask that the two pedestrian crossings on Marylebone Road near Enford Street are timed so that able-bodied adults and children can cross from north to south without having to wait for a full cycle of lights in the central island. The central islands become crowded and children travelling to the nearby schools are pushed close to the traffic. The timings require a very short extension of the pedestrian green light. As they are timed at present, parents and children are forced to run into the road in the pause between green and red, and run serious risks which could easily be eliminated with very little effect on traffic flow. We ask that TFL and the Council protect this vulnerable group from the serious health and safety threats posed by rush hour traffic on the Marylebone Road. ’

11. Objection to the abolition of residents discount on the congestion charge, Hyde Park Ward

‘We the undersigned, object to the abolition of the residents discount on the congestion charge that benefits residents in the Hyde Park Ward. We call upon the Mayor to recognize the impact this will have on the residents of Hyde Park Ward, in particular the elderly users of the medical facilities in W1 and ask him to respond with action.’

9. Re-open the public toilets at Notting Hill Gate Tube station

‘We the undersigned note the recent publicity given by Transport for London (TfL) to the availability of public toilets on the Tube network and call upon TfL and the Mayor to re-open the public toilets at Notting Hill Gate Tube station. This is a major intersection of tube lines in West London, and is used by many tourists passing through the station to Portobello market and other local attractions.’

7. 68 bus stand in Norwood High Street

‘We the undersigned, hereby object to the 68 bus stand in Norwood High Street. Norwood High Street is too busy and congested to allow safe operation of this bus stand. We suggest that the bus stand is relocated to Ernest Avenue. This will mean the improved safety of road users, safer operations of the bus stop adjacent to the bus stand and better interchange facilities for bus passengers.’

6. Noise and pollution generated by the 153 bus along Hemingford Road

‘We, the undersigned, wish to register our serious concerns about the current levels of noise and pollution generated by the 153 bus as it travels along the heavily residential Hemingford Road. The noise problem is particularly serious from 11pm until; the service ends after midnight, and between 5.00 and 8.00 in the morning. We call on transport for London to explore as a matter of urgency ways of mitigating this problem, in particular the possibility of either using smaller buses at these sensitive times or deploying on this route the new single-decker environmentally friendly (hybrid) buses as soon as possible.’

5. Retention of the existing 393 bus route

‘We, the undersigned, local residents and users of the 393 bus, request the Mayor of London and Transport for London to retain the existing route of the 393 bus because it provides an east-west service between places previously not directly linked by any form of public transport.’

4. Positioning of traffic lights/crossing at the junction of Holloway Road with Fieldway Crescent and Madras Place

‘We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned at the dangerous positioning of the traffic lights and crossing at the junction of Holloway Road with Fieldway Crescent and Madras Place, which has already caused one fatality and many near misses. We call on Boris Johnson, Mayor of London to ensure that Transport for London (whose responsibility the crossing and the traffic lights are) takes urgent action to improve safety for both cyclist and pedestrians.’

2. A return to good service for the 466 bus route

‘This petition is to demand the return of the good 466 service we had before Arriva took over the running of it recently. We want the following considerations to be initiated in the running of the route:

  1. No turning of the buses at Old Coulsdon or Shirley – the buses to continue to Caterham-on-the-Hill and Addington Village. If the buses do have to turn then the passengers allowed to stay on the terminating bus until another comes along, saving them from the bad weather.
  2. Better information to the passengers if a bus is not going to continue to its proper destination. And Arriva control to make sure another bus waits or is put on to take on these passengers enabling them to continue their journey with as little stress as possible.
  3. Separate buses for the school/college children thus allowing the public access to buses during the times children are going to and from school/college. And so therefore the public are not left standing for long periods during these times. And are not subject to rude and uncontrolled children.
  4. The stopping of drivers driving very slowly when near the end of their shift so they are able to terminate the bus early – leaving passengers stranded. The stopping of several buses running together and only one returning after some length of time. This happens frequently going up to Caterham-on the-Hill. The stopping of sending buses round the back route (Via Hamsey Green, Seldon etc) to Addington Village, leaving passengers without a bus for long periods of time along the Coulsdon Road.
  5. More consideration from the drivers for the elderly and disabled. Buses automatically lowered for them to get on and off the bus. Drivers not to drive past bus stops when the bell has been rung or people are waiting at bus stops. And to allow people to get to the bus stop if the bus gets to the stop before the person can get there – the drivers frequently wait for such passengers to get to the bus and then drive off without letting them get on.
  6. Drivers waiting for all departing passengers to alight the bus before closing doors and driving off.
  7. Buses not to turn round via Lacey Avenue."

1. Extension of 424 bus timetable

‘I call on TfL to extend the 424 bus service operating hours to leave Putney Bridge at 23.00 at the earliest. This would improve my personal safety and reduce car dependence in the area.’
