The London Plan

Spatial Development Strategy Technical Reports

To help in the preparation of the London Plan, research projects have been commissioned and reports of these projects are available for download.

  • Living roofs and walls - Technical report: supporting London Plan policy February 2008
The London Plan (consolidated with Alterations since 2004) contains a policy to promote living roofs and walls. The Mayor, together with Design for London, has produced this technical report which clarifies the various types of living roofs and the environmental and social benefits each type can deliver. Research for this publication has been funded in part through the sponsorship of Alumasc Exterior Building Products Ltd.

  • Outer London: Issues for the London Plan May 2007
Outer London plays a major role in the life of the capital and offers a high quality environment that has proved itself to be flexible and adaptable to demographic, ethnic, social and economic changes.

This report assesses the specific roles, characteristics and challenges of Outer London, now and in the future. This assessment takes place against the background of the Further Alterations to the London Plan, which are currently under review. It illustrates what has been achieved so far for Londoners living and working in the area – such as the roll-out of Safer Transport Teams and investment in transport links – and identifies some of the challenges that will be faced by Outer London in the coming years. It then makes recommendations for how these challenges can be realistically addressed through a combination of local and regional government action.

  • Assessment of Boatyard Facilities on the River Thames April 2007
The GLA Commissioned Adams Hendry Consulting Ltd to investigate the current status and operation of boatyards serving River Thames vessels in London. The research also considered how the needs may change in future and what measures may be needed to ensure that the Thames can sustain a viable passenger and freight transport service.

  • A managed approach to the night time economy in Camden Town: Research Study
This report presents the results of an eighteen month joint study carried out by the London Borough of Camden and the Greater London Authority. It presents a detailed snapshot of the nature and extent of the night-time economy in Camden Town, one of London's larger town centres. It brings together data from a wide range of sources and identifies key issues facing Camden Town at night. The study helped LB of Camden and its partners identify priorities for action, and offers a useful model for other London boroughs to think about their own hotspots of night time activity.
