What is the ‘Find your nearest allotment’ tool?

‘Find your nearest allotments’ is an online tool to help you find your nearest allotment site in London.

How does it work?

Users can input a partial (e.g. SE1) or full post code (e.g. SE1 2AA) into the search box. The results will return allotments in the same borough as the inputted post code. For example, a search for the post code “SE1 2AA” will return allotment sites in the London Borough of Southwark.

You may also display allotment sites in neighbouring boroughs to your inputted post code. For example, you may also include results for the London Borough of Lambeth in a search of “SE1 2AA”.

What type of post codes can I enter?

Users may enter a partial (e.g. SE1) or full post code (e.g. SE1 2AA). It is also unnecessary to enter a space between the two parts of the post code. The post code is not case sensitive.

How are the results listed?

The ‘Find your nearest allotment’ tool uses Google Maps to display its results. A red marker will highlight the user’s searched post code, and a wheelbarrow icon indicates an allotment site.

There is also a text listing of results of your searched criteria below the map. You can also jump to this listing by clicking on the “Full results list” link.

Zooming in and out

There are icons on the left hand side of the map that allow you to zoom in and out of the map.

Different views

There are three different types of maps that you can view from: the default map with road and place names; a satellite view; and hybrid view of the map and satellite view.

What are the further options?

On top of displaying the results from the borough of your searched post code, there is also the additional option to include the results on an additional neighbouring borough to the set of results.

For example, if a user searches for SE1 2AA (London Borough of Southwark) and then selects Lambeth as their further option the map will display the results from Southwark and Lambeth.

You may only search a maximum of two boroughs at a time.

I’m having problems seeing the map

Google Maps requires JavaScript to be enabled on your browser. If JavaScript has been disabled please switch it on to see Google Maps.

If your browser does not support JavaScript then you will be unable to use the mapping functionality. Users will instead be directed to a page linking to the borough by borough listing of allotments or, if a post code has been entered, a link to the relevant borough listing of allotments.

If you have any additional problems with application please contact webmaster@london.gov.uk.
